Business Decision: Members of Santas NorCal pay $5 and get membership certificate

At the January 16 meeting, Santa Gene moved and we agreed to a $5 per person membership fee. It is not really dues, it is just a modest token to support our domain names, website, and any costs involved in the membership certificates. We also agreed that those who paid their $5 were to be featured on the Santas NorCal website, and the others given an opportunity to either join or discontinue membership over some generous amount of time TBA. We hope the value of being a member of Santas NorCal continues to grow as we support each other.

Where and to whom do I send $5.00?

Hi Santa Jerry,

Our bookkeeper is Sheri Farley, and I just asked her by post where and how to set up payments for those who were not at our meeting. Perhaps you can post her to find out her preferences. There is no hurry, since we know you want to participate.

Thanks for responding!

Santa Walter

I was under the impression that one could be a part of NorCal Santas OR become a "dues" paying member. Just as the FORBS site is open to everyone, but has a special section for "Members In Good Standing" (MIGS), I think we can adopt a similar policy. I don't want to close out any lurkers on what we have to offer; by this method we may get more MIGS members in the long run. The dues will be cheap and sporadic according to our needs, so why close out Santas during times when we don't need the funds?

When I raised that clarification at our meeting, I thought we were following Gene's and Charlene's thoughts that members can post pictures, contact and website information, etc. and that those who are not members should not have the benefits of membership without being a member.

It is a worthy discussion! As you know, I have been running the site and allowing anyone to join who wished to join. I think we are moving towards allowing folks to join the website and then (in a few months) decide if being a member is worthwhile.

I hope to be able to log into CHAT from Glasgow, Scotland for our February Virtual Meeting; however, If the technical problems or plane delays preclude, please open the discussion with those online. Santa Zeke is the man! We are not planning any hasty actions!

Thanks,

Walter

My understanding is that the site is open for all to view but only Paying members would be able to post pictures, contact info, etc on their own "page" (the current setup). The $5 was to cover the internet costs which the paying members would benefit from.

Santa Walter, I hope that you are able to get online with us for February's meeting (but hey, you're surrounded by barrels of aged Scotch whiskey; you may have unforeseen technical difficulties ;D). If not, I'll make sure that all views are out there. I have plenty of help with our top-notch NorCal Santas to get our consensus going. Have fun in Scotland, and watch out for Highlanders shouting something about 'there can only be one.' Not a fun crowd.

Santa Zeke, at your comment about our membership issue is worthy of revisiting for the sake of consensus. So it is on the agenda, posted elsewhere.

Since we are scheduled to land in Glasgow at 4:35 PM, that translates into 8:35 AM PST. If everything works right, we will land on time, get our bags, walk to the Holiday Inn Express, and check in in 25 minutes. It could happen! We will do our best!

Probably, by the time we get to the room and the laptop is fired up and internet connection achieved, I will probably be late checking into the meeting. And if the plane is late, or the bags come off last, or , or, or, we may have other delays. I am assured by the experts that the distilleries will be waiting to surround us until we have settled in.

In the meantime, thanks for driving the agenda and the meeting. Of course, with consensus you can modify the heck out of that agenda!

Thanks for your help,

Santa Walter

PS -- I lack a current email address for you.

I seem to have forgotten a few places to change my email, as my old one was eaten by Comcast. It is now ZekeZzyzxx@comcast.net. I guess I should post this on a few more message boards.
